Samuel A. Walker is a partner in the West Palm Beach and Orlando offices of CPLS, P.A. Mr. Walker heads the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, and is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Business Law Practice Groups. He handles state appellate matters in Florida and in the Virgin Islands, and federal appellate matters throughout the country. He also handles trial court matters.
Mr. Walker has over 19 years of experience as a practicing attorney. His experience was gained from practicing law with various organizations including: Reed Smith, a law firm with offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East; the appellate division of the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Montgomery, Alabama; the appellate division of the Office of the Public Defender in West Palm Beach, Florida; and the Government of the Virgin Islands, Department of Justice where he served as the Deputy Solicitor General, responsible for civil and criminal appeals before the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Walker served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Ishmael A. Meyers, Sr. at the Superior Court of the United States Virgin Islands. In that capacity, Mr. Walker advised Judge Meyers on a variety of civil and criminal matters, including civil and criminal appeals.
Mr. Walker has handled numerous appellate matters, including petitions to the Supreme Court of the United States. He has represented individuals before the Supreme Court of the United States; the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth and Eleventh Circuits; the Florida Supreme Court; and the Supreme Court of the Unites States Virgin Islands. Mr. Walker handles appeals in other federal and State appellate courts, through pro hac vice admissions.
In addition to his experience in the appellate area, Mr. Walker has handled complex trial court matters, including class action matters, in Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Mr. Walker has represented individuals and businesses before state and federal trial courts. His extensive experience is invaluable to public and private clients in both trial court and appellate court matters.
Mr. Walker is a member of the Florida Bar, and the U.S. Virgin Islands Bar. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court, the Virgin Islands Supreme Court, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Sixth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits.
Mr. Walker is a member of the National Bar Association, the nation’s oldest and largest association of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges. He is a former member of the National Bar Association’s Board of Governors, and is the founding chair of the National Bar Association’s Appellate Law Section. He is also a member of the Caribbean Bar Association; the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association; the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association; and the Palm Beach County Bar Association.
